Montepulciano

Even though, the three brother wines produced in Tuscany are all produced from the same Sangiovese grape variety - Chianti, Montalcino Brunello and Nobile from Montepulciano, this latter one is not so well known internationally, but has always had the fame of being an excellent wine. Since the Renaissance times, the Pope in Rome acclaimed its quality, making sure that the ‘noble’ wine of Montepulciano was always served at his dinning table.

Montepulciano, reached its grandeur in 1500, still witnessed today by the beautiful examples of Renaissance architecture. One such wonderful example, among the many, is the temple of San Biagio, designed by Sangallo, the famous Florentine architect. Today the city is living a new ‘Renaissance’ thanks to the success of its ‘vino Nobile' and the business that has been generated with it. By now famous worldwide, the city is a destination for many visitors and wine lovers that come to see the wine cellars, several of which have historical appeal because they have been dug several meters deep in the ‘tufo’ volcanic rock on which Montalpulciano has been built on and lived in ever since Etruscan times.
